Raising From Inside Out
2012 BFA Thesis l Artist Statement Jewelry and Metal Arts California College of the Arts
Raising is an ancient technique used to make forms from flat sheet of metal through hammering.
The process by which my vessels were created can sometimes be violent, loud, and aggressive.
Yet at the same time, through this process, I feel it is sometimes a private, reflective and personal time.
In sharp contrast to the process, the final pieces are calm and still, shy and reserved;
the aggression, volatility and energy involved in creation, barely perceptible.
